International School Review Tips: The Right Way to Support Kids in International School
As good parents and guardians we are always thinking up new ways on how to be there for our children as they go through the different stages in their lives. Today, the focus will be all about their time in international school. According to the International School Review, kids can do far better than expected in international school if parents and guardians provide constant support, and a great base. For parents who are having to send their kids to international school, try these tips to show your support and encouragement to them.
1. Prepare your kids for questions about his own culture by familiarizing him with his own culture- International schools really take the time to celebrate the different cultures of their teachers and students. In fact, that is one of the aspects that international schools have that is a difference. By educating your child on his own background, you make it easy for him to have something to say and share to both his friends and in class. You can make more of an effort to practice or even just discuss personal cultural traditions at home, eat the food and simply share stories.
2. Listen to what your child has to say- When exposed to a new environment such as an international school, there can be information overload for the child. He may be exposed to so many things that may seem foreign and strange, that of course, he will want to share, or even ask you about it. Be the supportive parent by encouraging him to talk about his time in school, and what he’s learned from the classroom and outside of it. By listening to his stories, you get a clear idea as to how he is doing in school.
3. Allow your child to dabble in extracurricular activities- International schools may have more choices when it comes to extra curricular activities than others. If your child shows interest in some of them, do allow him to pursue that. It’s a great way to do something he loves and make friends too.
Your child will surely develop and blossom if you give him the right kind of support. Just keep on with your efforts and you will soon see the results!
